Well, this was strange. A return to the same venue a week later saw the Kolts face a totally different challenge. This game always promised to be completely different to the 5-1 game a week earlier. And that’s exactly what the fans got.
A slow start by the Kolts saw Baulko come out firing and drew 1st blood with their 2nd penalty in a week. The ball unfortunately deflected off CB Jake Abbey’s arm, Baulko took full advantage and had the lead after 10 minutes.
The Kolts played within themselves and never got going in a very scrappy 1st half. 2nd to every ball, indecisive in possession saw the Kolts play into Baulko hands. A scrappy affair was exactly what the home team wanted. As the half drew to a close, Coach Tayler needed an injection of mayhem. Something to spark a lethargic half into action. His in-form super sub, Adnan Mušič had the affect he wanted. Coming on 5 minutes before the break, Mušič was at his best, playing neat 1-2s with Conor Siney. Some great hold up play saw Siney hacked down in the box. A stone wall penalty. Kyle Allen stepped up to give the Kolts a fortuitous goal and send the team into the break level at 1-1. A perfect time to score for the Kolts.
The 2nd half was all about Adnan Mušič. His energy, determination and sheer desire to help his team win this game was infectious. He harassed, pressed and chased everything down. He caused absolute mayhem in the Baulko backline. This hard work paid off when he was on hand to dispatch, what proved to be the winning goal, in the 65th minute after some persistence from Carlos Burgas and Kyle Allen.
The Kolts dominated territory and possession from there but failed to capitalise on their domination, spurning chance after chance. A nervy ending saw Chris Watters pull off a quote brilliant reflex save which he made look simple. The Kolts hung on for a hard-fought win.
This result and the upset derby win by the new Rams team saw the Kolts return to the summit of the table. A big week lies ahead as the Kolts travel to Rams to play the new in-form new boys.
Until then, Bleed ❤️🖤❤️🖤
