Man of The Match - Ethan Jones🥇
The Kolts were back at home after almost a month on the road. Up against a confident Winston Hills outfit this game proved tricky in the end. With Winsto starting off with high energy and pressure the game transcended into a scrappy affair. The Kolts did manage to take the lead after some very good attacking play from Spencer Fisher. Fisher broke into the box and was fouled. Kyle Allen dispatched the penalty to make it 1-0. The lead was soon doubled as some calm play and great vision from back-to-back MOTM Ethan Jones saw him play a defence splitting pass to set Kyle Allen free. Allen, who is very clinical when on goal dispatched it to give the Kolts a comfortable 2-0 lead heading into the break.
The game was never truly settled and Winsto were given a way back as the Kolts somehow conceded from a long-range free kick. The wall
Proving ineffective followed by a deflection saw the ball somehow get past GK Chris Watters, who perhaps could have done better. The boys bounced back immediately, restoring the 2 goal advantage when Adnan Mušič fought and dug deep to score a tap-in and make it 3-1. From this point, the Kolts should have seen out the game through effective game management. The opposite happened as they became passive on the ball, allowed Winston hills to compete for 2nd balls and failed to win headers from long balls, which made the game scrappier. This played into Winsto hands as they thrive off this. They were able to gain territory without much “football” being played.
Another set piece and another goal. A ball whipped in from out wide somehow saw 3 unmarked players at the back post. Winning that header, saw another free player on the opposite post to make it 3-2 and suddenly Winsto believed they could get something out of the game. With no reaction on the field from the Kolts, it was soon 3-3 as a 3rd collective defensive mistake saw Winsto equalise from a corner.
The game became frantic and unfortunately for the Kolts the situation was made worse when RB, Matt Drane, was sin-binned for backchat. Finishing the game with 10 men meant little chance to win the game and Kolts were lucky not to lose all points as Winsto missed a glorious chance from 3 yards.
Hard lessons learnt today around talking and communication but the team remains unbeaten and top of the table still.
Next week it’s 1st vs 2nd as Kolts take on high flying Hills Spirit at Arnold Avenue.
Until then, BLEED
